Images of Hokkaido, Japan taken by Cairns photographer Paul Dymond. Scenes include various festivals such as Yosakoi and Hokkaido Jingu, as well as landmarks such as Odori Park, the volcanic lakes of Toya and Akan and Shiretoko National Park.
50 imagesIn the very north of Japan, Hokkaido is the country's largest island and is home to incredible natural areas of wilderness, an ancient indigenous Ainu culture and cosmopolitan cities. Hokkaido is my home away from home and I visit there regularly to photograph and write about its people and places.
30 imagesSapporo, Japan is a year round festival city. Nowhere else comes alive as much as this city in the far north of the country. The majority of festivals centre around Odori Park - a large thoroughfare through the heart of the city. Sapporo is my second home and I travel there regularly to photograph the city and its people. Here you can find images from the Yosakoi Festival, the Sapporo Matsuri, the Hokkaido Jingu Festival and the Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival).
