The Aurukun Wetlands is an area of pristine wilderness built around the Archer River on the west coast of the very remote Cape York, at the very tip of Australia.
I had a chance to spend a few days on a special charter boat - the MV Pikkuw - which is run by the local aboriginal community.
It was an amazing experience to see life first hand through the eyes of the local Wik elders who showed us their land, culture and food.

Here you can find images of stately termite mounds, hunting for stingrays in crocodile-infested rivers and cooking large barrimundi in traditional pit ovens wrapped in tree bark. A beautiful place and amazing people.
